States of Becoming

States of Becoming is an exploration of figures, forms, and thoughts in various states of transition. Caught midstream, none of the figures represented in these paintings are meant to be considered as fully formed or fully realized. Rather, each is seen in a fleeting moment of vulnerability, caught in the act of change.

This collection of paintings is the third grouping of works I’ve completed since resuming my painting practice in late 2023. My initial paintings explored the meeting place between landscape and memory, and hallucinatory glimpses into parallel worlds. Those earlier themes are still present, but this is the first time figures are foregrounded in any meaningful way. In these paintings, you might see a dancer mid-movement, a thought emerging and gathering strength, or a person moving between this life and the next.
